Why Luna Pos Won't Stop at Being 'Just a POS Company'

When you're choosing a POS system, what are you really looking for?

Slips get printed. Bills get settled. Sales get tracked. — Honestly, any service can do that. There are differences in UI preferences and pricing, but no one's ever said "we literally can't operate without this specific POS."

So why did we go out of our way to build a new one?

In this article, we'll lay out why Luna Pos is competing not on POS features, but on what we do with the data — and how that changes the future for owners, floor staff, and hostesses alike.

POS Has Become a Commodity

Slip management, billing, sales reports. Whichever POS you install, the basics are the same.

There are one-time purchase models and cloud-based ones. Some cost hundreds of thousands of yen upfront; others charge monthly. Line up the features side by side, and no decisive difference emerges.

POS is a commodity now.

That's why Luna Pos doesn't aim to "win on POS features." Of course, we're confident in the usability we've built natively with SwiftUI — a UI you can figure out without hand-holding support. That's table stakes. But it's just the foundation.

What we're focused on is what happens with the data that accumulates in your POS day after day.

Data Becomes "Store Credibility"

Investment money does flow into the nightlife industry. Funding from acquaintances, connections within the industry, investments from regulars, individual investors — money moves through these channels. That's a fact.

But the sources of capital are far too limited.

Banks are generally reluctant to lend to nightlife businesses. VCs and funds don't know how to access the market. Foreign investors might be interested in Japan's nightlife scene, but there's no way for information to even reach them. In practice, the industry runs on "insider money."

Why doesn't it expand outward? Because investors don't have the information they need to make decisions.

In the restaurant industry, there's sales trajectory, average spend per customer, cost ratios, repeat rates — the data exists, and it's used to make lending and investment decisions. But in the nightlife industry, almost no venue systematically accumulates this kind of data. Even if bookkeeping exists, it's not granular enough for investment decisions.

In other words, it's not that the market lacks appeal — there's just no way to present it. We believe there's enormous room for growth here.

Luna Pos Fund (In Development on Our Roadmap)

What Luna Pos is developing is a funding and investment-matching system for store owners, powered by the sales data accumulated in the POS.

Here's how it works.

Stores that use Luna Pos every day continuously accumulate real-time data — daily sales, average spend, customer count, repeat rates. With the owner's consent, this data can be made visible to investors.

For investors, what was once an "opaque box" — a nightlife business with no visibility into its operations — becomes readable through numbers. Beyond insider funding, VCs, funds, and foreign investors — sources of capital that were previously inaccessible — can now connect through data.

A store running Luna Pos = a store investors can evaluate with data = a store that can attract capital from both domestic and international sources.

When this structure is in place, owners who were limited to expanding only through their own revenue will have new options. For staff too, having "data to back you up" becomes a real advantage when going independent or launching a new venue.

Data Becomes "Career Assets for Hostesses"

There's another future we're building toward.

Hostesses have customers. Regulars who nominate them, clients they've built trust with over time. That's undeniably a major asset.

But there's no data to back it up.

When moving to a new club, or doing a trial shift, the only way to prove your ability is to talk about it. In a short interview, can you really convey years of hospitality skill? You might quote your sales numbers, but strengths like "I'm great at in-store nominations," "I can shift the energy of a table when I'm on assist," or "My repeat rate is high" — these can't be communicated through words alone.

Let's be honest — even in regular day jobs, there's no way to verify whether the numbers on a resume are real. But in this industry, where embellishment is part of the culture, self-reported claims carry even less weight. That's exactly why having verifiable proof creates an immediate edge.

Luna Pos Career (In Development on Our Roadmap)

What Luna Pos is developing is a career support system powered by the performance data accumulated in the POS.

What we want to emphasize here is that this is not a system where only the top sellers get recognized.

Hospitality skill can't be measured by sales alone.

  • Hostesses with many regular nominations → Strong at building a loyal customer base
  • Hostesses with many in-store nominations → Exceptional at first-impression hospitality
  • Hostesses with high repeat rates → Able to build lasting relationships

These strengths accumulate naturally as POS data. They become the hostess's own "career assets." Looking further ahead, we also want to visualize contribution during assist shifts — the ability to support the entire venue through teamwork.

When moving to a new club, you can demonstrate your strengths with data. The receiving venue can also use data to determine "this person fits our style." Not gut feeling — matching based on actual track records.

Flip it around: if you work at a store without Luna Pos, none of this proof gets recorded. You might have strong customer relationships, but you have no way to show that to your next employer.

Not "a POS Company" — a "Data Infrastructure Company"

By now, it should be clear why Luna Pos isn't competing on POS features.

Our business model isn't structured to maximize profit from the POS alone.

Free up to 500 transactions. Paid plan is ¥30,000/month (tax included). That's it. No expensive setup fees. No feature restrictions by plan tier. Even past 500 transactions, the POS itself keeps working — you just lose access to the admin dashboard.

Why? Because we're not chasing POS revenue alone. Our goal is to maximize the number of stores using our system and become the data infrastructure for the entire industry.

Once enough data accumulates, Fund and Career come to life. For stores, it's a state where "just by using the POS, credibility and career foundations build themselves."

There's value here that feature comparisons will never reveal. For more on how POS data accumulation is transforming nightlife management, funding, and talent acquisition, check out this article.

What Changes for You

Owners / Managers

As data accumulates, you'll eventually have materials to present to investors. Your options for expansion beyond self-funded growth will widen. Even if banks remain strict, non-bank and FinTech lenders may offer a path forward through data. And with up to 500 transactions free, there's zero risk. This is a POS where "let me just try it out" actually works.

Floor Staff

If Luna Pos Fund takes off, it opens the possibility of outside investment flowing into your venue. Investment accelerates expansion. New stores need people to run them. — The person closest to that role is you, the one keeping the floor running right now. Growth plans that were limited to your own revenue could accelerate overnight with external capital. When that happens, the promotions and new store assignments will come from the current team.

Hostesses

Will you work at a store where your hospitality skills are recorded as data, or one where they're not? This choice will shape your career years from now. You don't have to be the top seller. Regular nomination strength, in-store nomination ability, repeat rate — these are strengths you can prove with data right now. Down the road, assist contribution will be visualized too.

Summary

We're in an era where every POS can do roughly the same things. That's precisely why we believe you should choose based on "what lies beyond continued use of that POS."

What Luna Pos is building toward is becoming the data infrastructure for the entire nightlife industry. Proving store credibility through numbers. Supporting hostess careers through data.

If any part of that vision resonates with you, give it a try.

Luna Pos — Beyond the POS

Free up to 500 transactions, with full access to all features. Paid plan is ¥30,000/month.

But what we're building isn't "just a POS." We're turning accumulated data into "store credibility" and "career assets for hostesses." We're genuinely working to become the data infrastructure for the entire industry.
